Jacksonville, Florida… At first glance, her products look like items ready for window display in a posh bakery but upon closer inspection, you’ll see that the chocolate bars, pastries with sprinkles and even frappe looking drinks under the Sweet Christi’s brand are not meant to be consumed.
The creator behind the plant-based vegan products is a 12-year-old Jacksonville native, Christianna Alexander who is working her way to venture further into the $15-billion dollar bath and shower products industry, which grew by four percent between 2014 and 2019. When her parents heard of Rashad Howard’s Virtual Pitch powered by the Key 2 Everything, they suggested she enter it.
“She submitted a 60-second pitch to a panel of four judges,” said her mother Hilda. “There were contestants from across the country and we really didn’t know how we compared to others. But when she won, we were so overjoyed because this is her first time winning first place in her whole life. She struggled with her learning disabilities early on in life and now has found something she loves and she is good at and doing. We are so proud of her.”
Christi says she feels confident enough to pitch to major entities such as Shark Tank and is getting in practice as she hosts soapmaking sessions with children. She also works to raise money for nonprofits to teach children how to swim and often speaks about what it means to have learning disabilities.
